Launching project of recycling plastic Byblos,Fidar & Monsif
Monday February 01, 2021
We are happy to announce that our project “Byblos,Fidar & Monsif Community Recycling” under the Lebanese civil society combating for the plastic-free Mediterranean Sea, was awarded.
This project is in the framework of the Lebanese civil society combating for the plastic-free Mediterranean Sea, funded by the BeMed the Fondation Prince Albert II de Monaco
and the European Union and implemented by the Lebanese Environment Forum and Lebanon Eco Movement under the name of BahrBalaPlastic بحر بلا بلاستيك which aims at raising awareness,
Plastic pollution is one of the most serious environmental problems affecting the seas and oceans. Every minute the equivalent of a plastic garbage truck is dumped into it, threatening marine life and our health. The Mediterranean Sea, due to its semi-enclosed nature, is particularly impacted by this pollution. It is now considered to be the most polluted sea in the world.
The main topic addressed by this initiative is one education. We are often told that recycling is complicated and that it demands costly infrastructure. In fact very few of us know what really is recycling and how it happens: when we think of recycling we often just think about sorting. We find that the best way to educate people is to put the tools of recycling in their hands.
We are looking forward to the next steps of our project with the collaboration of 3 cities in the Mediterranean,Byblos, Fidar, and Monsif Municipalities.
This project will add a cultural touch, reflect awareness and responsibility, allow for recycling-related knowledge and tools to be spread across the region.
